Magic Shoes

She watched the boy playing on the basketball court. He was alone, but he was having the time of his life. He hopped around, imitating the professionals he’d seen on television. He would make sounds that were supposed to mimic the sounds of a crowd. He even cheered for himself every once in a while.

The old ball he was using was almost worn to threads. It was a surprise it still held air. His shoes were also rather worn. She watched as he played, not knowing anyone else was around. He just continued with him make believe game. Pretending there were other players trying to block him and steal the ball.

She watched him everyday. When he was done he would run back to his mother who sat on a nearby bench watching him and he would change his shoes. She had asked his mother one day why he did that and she explained that he thought those shoes were magic shoes.
