Basketball Bonding

My dad put in the new basketball hoop one day in the late spring. He told us we could play hoops together. That it would be a good way to bond. He was always too busy, though. He’d always say he’d play tomorrow, but tomorrow never came.

I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed about never playing with dad, but it wasn’t all that bad. Once he put that hoop up and mom saw he was never going to play with us she’d come out and play. I didn’t even know my mom could play until she beat the pants of us. She was amazing. We would spend all day Saturday playing. Thos are some of my best memories growing up. When we were done she’s take us in a fix us a tall, cold glass of water and we’d talk about how our week went.

That hoop may have not helped us bond with dad, but it sure did help us get close to mom.
